Questions to ease homework stress
Gwen Bass, director of the Teacher Leadership Programs of Professional and Graduate Education at Mount Holyoke, has tips to ease homework stress.
The school year has started, and with it, parental stress over homework.
A new survey from Office Depot finds that nearly 25 percent of parents think their children are given more homework than they can handle, while four in five parents said they have struggled to understand their kids’ homework.
“Research unequivocally demonstrates the profound benefits on educational outcomes that result when we join with our kids and communicate to them that we value their efforts, we are invested in the learning they do all day, and we tell them explicitly that we believe they have what it takes to be successful,” Bass said.
In an interview with NBC News Online, she suggested a series of questions parents can ask their children to help guide and assist them during homework time.
