A Day at MHC: Nicole Boutaugh

“I love Mount Holyoke's emphasis on community. Students are constantly provided opportunities to become more involved, whether it be in person or online.”

Class: junior
Hometown: Veazie, Maine
Major: international relations and East Asian studies double major

Left: a residence hall sink labeled with student names; Right: a laptop by a window

8:22 am: Starting my day off by washing my face and brushing my teeth. I love that we have assigned sinks to limit the spread of bodily fluids.

9:40 am: My first class of the day is Germans, Slavs and Jews 1900-1950, taught by Jeremy King in the history department. It is a challenging course but I have learned a lot.

Lunch in a reuseable containter next to a laptop on a student desk

12:13 pm: Time for lunch. Today I am eating rice with guac, lettuce, and cheese. I love to watch YouTube as I eat.

Left: a laptop with readings on the screen; Right: a laptop with photos of cosutmes displayed

1:31 pm: Getting some readings done before my next class.

3:00 pm: Time for my costume design class. I have never taken an art class at MHC before, but it is easily becoming one of my favorite classes. Today, I am presenting my design for “The Handmaiden.”

Left: the view across a students room and out the window; Right: the front of Kendall fitness center

5:00 pm: I love the view from my window. When the snow falls I feel like I’m in a snowglobe.

7:31 pm: Heading to Kendall Fitness Center to get my body moving. Sometimes sitting at my desk can feel suffocating, so I am glad I have the opportunity to go to the gym.
